Students at McVay Elementary School will likely
enjoy special assemblies on May 21 at 9:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
when the McAxe and Kasey Fire and Safety Show will visit their
school to teach them safety skills. Kasey (a black Labrador
retriever) and her partner, firefighter/paramedic Jeff Owens,
travel the country bringing their life saving message to some
400,000 people annually.
During the program, Kasey will demonstrate how to:
-
Stop, drop and roll;
-
Feel a door to see if it’s hot before
opening it;
-
Know two ways out of every room;
-
Tell an adult when you find matches and
lighters;
-
Crawl under smoke to escape;
-
Call 911 when you have an emergency; and
-
Have a meeting place outside our home.
Kasey is a certified therapy dog through the Delta Society, who
has been trained in search and rescue and teaches children their
fire and life safety skills. She wears the badge of the
Indianapolis Fire Department. The Kasey Program is sponsored by
Koorsen Fire and Security, headquartered in Indianapolis.
